Apple changed the way we listened to music starting in 2001, and they are now breaking up with the super popular program, iTunes.

iTunes has been a household name for as long as I can remember beginning from the creation of the Apple iPod. Apple changed the way we downloaded music and store all of our phone information in one convenient program.

From the start, iTunes had to compete with piracy websites. People would much rather load their free downloaded music onto iTunes rather than paying directly to Apple. It was the central location for all music, videos, movies, and your personal photos. With the ever-evolving music industry, research found that consumers would rather pay a monthly fee for unlimited content instead of individually paying for each song. Alike companies Netflix, Pandora, Spotify, Hulu.

The move to phase out iTunes didn't come as a total surprise as the company has been pushing users toward its Apple Music subscription service. After all, Apple can charge a monthly fee to boost revenue rather than wait for a customer to buy a few songs. As most people know, Apple Music has taken off quickly with its 2 sister apps, Podcast and TV. These application are automatically loaded on all iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and iPods.

Music is focused on personalization. You have the ability to subscribe to unlimited content monthly, buy individual songs or albums, listen to a radio of popular music, and even pick from hundreds of playlists. Making the music app designed especially for you!

So what about all of your purchased songs and movies and synced information on iTunes?

No need to worry! You will find your purchased songs under the Music app and your movies under the TV app and of course talk shows under Podcast. Making it organized for finding exactly what you want. For people who used iTunes to sync up their devices, Apple said a tool will now be located via the sidebar in Finder on their Macs.

P.S. the update for MacOS will be available in the fall with the new Music desktop layout.

Are you sad to part ways with iTunes? Or have you already jumped on the Apple Music bandwagon?

I already did!
